This piece originated with some rough gouache studies painted on location in Pacific City, Oregon, and then a small pastel study done back in the studio before tackling this larger oil. There are such beautiful patterns in ocean waves, and pairing that subject with rocks (a subject I always love to paint!) made for a fun challenge in the studio!
