Last Light at Dillon Falls
I've painted on location at or around this spot several times. But on this particular day, my husband and I were just out for a short hike as the sun was setting, and I noticed that the water level was lower, which allowed me to get closer to one of the larger drops along this stretch of rapids. Normally when I'm there painting or collecting reference photos, I'm always wishing for a better way to view the front of this waterfall. As far as I know, there's no access from the other side of the river, and I can never seem to get close enough (safely!). Very possibly the water level may normally be lower this time of year, allowing me to get a little closer and get a glimpse of the front of the falls, which I'm going to try and remember for next year! Initially, I wished I had captured the reference for this just a bit earlier, with a little more light on the water, but I decided to go with that very last light imagery and see what I could do with it.
