Rockfish on the Hunt
I remember being a little kid and my dad taking us down to Port Orford to fish off the rocks for rockfish, the most coveted prize was to try to catch a lingcod. Lingcod like to hide in dark crevices and underneath rock overhangs to ambush their prey. They eat many things including baby octopi as depicted here. The most rarest of rare is the blue ling cod, which has a blueish green skin and meat color, the meat turns white when cooked and is very tasty. The rare color comes from a pigment called biliverdin, which is found in less than 20% of ling cod but is commonly found in kelp greenling fish.
