Winter's Last Color
The sun broke on a cold, late winter's morning to color the high clouds vivid pinks and oranges while emphasized by deep purple clouds in the distance. Hardy pines reach for these clouds amidst a field of golden grasses and dormant wildflowers. It was the high contrast between the sleeping earth below and the brilliant waking sky above that inspired me to paint this image.
The painting is done in oils on a piece of masonite that has been hand finished with three (3) coats of board gesso and sanded to a light textured finish.
