On a visit to a friend of a friend I was astonished by her Iris gardens. She had many areas all thick with Iris. I've never seen so many in one place so of course I had to paint them! I did sketches and took photos because I knew I wouldn't get back there. Then came the clincher...my friend told me her husband loved irises and she planted all of them in his honor. He was one of the pilots killed on 9/11.
