This is my backyard garden in April. The sun was straight overhead, leaving the wall in shadow but putting light on the tangle of roses and irises. I loved the way the colors popped out from the cool shadows. I painted this during the pandemic lockdown, as a demonstration for my online students. I experimented with a palette knife for some of the texture.
