During the 2021 Laguna Plein Air Invitational, storm clouds moved in quickly over the coast. Lightning slashed over the distant hills. I welcomed this atmospheric mood, that I had never experienced in the thirteen years I had experienced in the event. I let the acrylic under-painting show through in the near cliffs, for variety in paint application, and implied texture and detail.
