Pastorale
This work has been made with Charcoal and Graphite on toned Rives Arches paper. I enjoyed making this drawing and having the humble and beautiful sheep as the subject.
I currently live in the Netherlands and sheep have been depicted in landscapes by Dutch artists throughout the centuries. Even now you can enjoy seeing them lying on the grass in flocks or grazing in solitude in a corner of polders.
I read that they have good memory and they recognize faces and I can't help thinking of the kind of relationship we have with these placid animals: never rebelling and completely trusting us.
When I look at them I can see docile and calm animals, conveying harmony like the Pastorale art genre wants to represent, and I am happy I can celebrate them in my own way.
