Sunset Kuerner's Farm
I had a chance to paint at the Kuerner's Farm, the place that inspired Wyeth's work for decades. My watercolor painting above is the result of that day. Andrew Wyeth has been a source of inspiration for my work since I entered art school in 1976. I was never able to study directly with him, so this was a nice opportunity to paint in his shadow for a little while. We picked a spot near the spring house with a good view of the imposing front porch. The grey/green of its massive stone walls, against the warm stucco of the house with it's advancing violet/blue shadows, was an inspiring subject to try and capture. I had visited the farm with my artist husband Ed, back in 1982 when it was still lived in by the Kuerners, so we were only able to view it from the road. It was really very exciting for me to be there on the land, up close and able to paint from it directly!
